Deb trained in the UK, she has over thirty years of varied experience. She completed a three-year hospital-based training and then specialised in Mental Health whilst also studying Psychology, Ethics, Biology and Sociology which led to a Dip HE in Mental Health studies. She later went on and trained in Psychotherapy – Transactional Analysis, Clinical Hypnotherapy, Cognitive Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Throughout her career she has developed a great understanding of trauma and is a qualified trauma and integrated somatic trauma therapist. Deb is qualified to deliver Poly Vagal Therapy and is currently learning DBT and deepening her skills in Internal Family Systems theory. Throughout her experience in mental health and disability she has supported clients with limited to no expressive language skills to be assessed and receive the support they need. She has completed training in “Talking Mats” which is a method of using images to help clients’ express needs and areas of concern. Her work in this field has been published with Talking Mats in the UK. Deb is a trained educator and clinical supervisor.
Deb is experienced with telehealth and is equipped to see clients with complex presentations. She has assessed and therapeutically worked with all mental health diagnosis and intellectual and developmental disabilities. For the past four years she has worked within NDIS, managing her own business. Her experience is predominantly with adults, but she has also worked with adolescents. Over this time there has been a high need to support clients with Behavioural issues. Her assessments have helped differentiate presentations of behavioural issues, disability related issues and mental health concerns. This has been pivotal with NDIS for engaging the most appropriate supports and utilising clients plans more effectively.
In her spare time, she is a huge animal lover and in the last twenty years she has set up and run numerous animal charities for animals overseas. She now actively fundraises for local animals here in Australia.
