Dr Katie McCullough is a Consultant Psychiatrist originally from Belfast, Northern Ireland. She obtained her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from Newcastle University in the United Kingdom in 2014. In 2019, Dr McCullough moved to Australia, where she began her career in Psychiatry at Townsville University Hospital, before relocating to Brisbane where she worked at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital to complete her specialist training in Psychiatry. In 2024, Dr McCullough achieved fellowship with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists.

Throughout her career, she has gained extensive experience in both rural and urban settings, working across various sub-specialties including early psychosis, child and youth mental health, eating disorders, personality disorders, mood disorders, perinatal mental health, rehabilitation psychiatry, and addiction psychiatry. Dr McCullough’s special interests include addiction psychiatry, youth mental health (ages 18-25), and mood disorders such as anxiety and depression.

Dr McCullough adopts a holistic and recovery-oriented approach to care, characterised by empathy, compassion, and a commitment to providing evidence-based treatment to her patients. Dr McCullough believes strongly in the power of creating a safe space to foster a strong therapeutic alliance, working collaboratively with patients on their individual journey to recovery.

Dr McCullough’s special interests outside of Psychiatry include exploring Brisbane’s best brunch spots with her husband, enjoying a good Pilates class, and hiking with her two rescue dogs.
