ADHD and developmental paediatrics

Carlota is a consultant paediatrician whose particular interest is developmental and behavioural paediatrics: ADHD, autism, learning differences, anxiety and emotional regulation difficulties, and the effect these have on a child’s day at home and at school.

ADHD is rarely the whole picture. Autism, learning differences, anxiety and emotional regulation difficulties either sit alongside it or account for the presentation outright, and separating them is the substance of the assessment. At Pandion these are screened as standard rather than treated as an optional extra, and where ADHD is not the right answer the family is told so clearly, with an explanation of what comes next.

She works closely with families, schools, psychologists and allied health professionals to build a picture of each child’s strengths and difficulties, and to arrive at a management plan the family can actually carry out.

Carlota consults in Spanish as well as English.

Background and training

Carlota holds an MBBS and is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. She completed her medical degree and specialist training in general paediatrics in Spain, before life, and marrying an Australian, brought her to Australia, where she undertook further specialist training in general paediatrics.

Her experience spans general paediatrics, neonatal medicine, developmental and behavioural paediatrics, and child and adolescent health.

She is a member of the Australasian Society for Developmental Paediatrics, the member-led body for doctors with a specialist clinical or academic interest in developmental paediatrics.

Outside the clinic

Carlota enjoys travelling, diving, being outdoors and pottery, and spends her time with her husband and friends, her dog Kuma and her cat Leo. She brings a down-to-earth approach to her work, and cares about children and families leaving an appointment feeling heard.
