Richard is an Australian-trained Counsellor. Richard holds a Bachelor of Psychology from the University of South Australia, a Diploma of Counselling from the Australian Institute of Professional Counsellors and is currently completing a Masters of Counselling and Psychotherapy from the University of Adelaide. Since gaining his qualifications, Richard has worked exclusively with men in his practice. Richard draws from a range of modalities to best suit his client’s needs in practice. These include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Person-Centred therapy, Solution-Focused therapy and Acceptance and Commitment therapy. Richard also works with the Irish community in Australia on issues around immigration, homesickness and inter-personal issues. Richard is based in Adelaide, South Australia, where he works in Private Practice.
Richard’s decision to work with men exclusively was born out of both beneficial experience in his own therapy as well as recognising the lack of men’s counselling specifically. By acknowledging traditional barriers to entering therapy for men, Richard works with his clients to provide a space where men feel comfortable sharing their issues whilst looking to resolve them in a positive manner. Richard employs both short term and longer-term therapies, working with men to find the most appropriate solution for their needs.
Away from the consulting rooms, Richard is an avid Arsenal and GWS Giants fan, as well as a keen runner. Richard also co-hosts The Self You Seek podcast with Dr Brendan Daugherty which can be found at; https://podcasts.apple.com/au/podcast/the-self-you-seek/id1727650845
